The Dallas International Piano Competition 2026 took place in Dallas, Texas, USA, from June 17 to 23, with the selection of the Shigeru Kawai SK-EX full concert grand piano as the official instrument for the event.
Kawai has provided instruments for official selection in the Dallas International Piano Competition.
One of the Kawai’s most esteemed piano technician, MPA (Master Piano Artisan) Akinori Nakajima, also played a pivotal role at the Dallas International Piano Competition. Akinori Nakajima meticulously adjusted the piano to harmonize with the hall’s acoustics, showcasing exceptional skill in managing subtle instrument nuances under challenging environmental conditions.

1st prize winner – Jialin Yao
I was especially impressed by how beautifully the piano projected through the orchestra. It allowed me to create both a powerful, expansive sound and the most delicate, warm whispers, giving me an enormous dynamic range. At the same time, it is an incredibly sensitive instrument that responds to the smallest nuances of touch and offers a rich palette of colors that carries naturally throughout the entire concert hall.
2nd prize winner – Kamil Pacholec
It was a very easy piano to play throughout the competition. I particularly appreciated its warm, rich resonance and its wide variety of tonal expression. Shigeru Kawai allowed me to express my music freely and honestly on stage.
3rd prize winner – Miao Gao
Everything about the piano was special. Its tone, tonal colors, and responsiveness allowed me to realize almost exactly what I wanted to express musically.” He added that he hopes to own an SK-EX of his own one day.
About the Dallas International Piano Competition
The prestigious Dallas International Piano Competition, hosted by the Dallas Chamber Symphony, was first held in 2013. The Competition is comprised of two separate, but concurrently running parts; 1) an international “Pro” competition for classically trained performers aged 18 to 35 (inclusive) who are ready to launch a solo career, and 2) a “Youth” festival of performances and masterclasses for those aged 15 to 18 (inclusive) and residing in Texas, who have reached an advanced level of performance on their instrument. Presented by the Dallas Chamber Symphony, the DIPC is held biennially in June.
